FERRIES

    There are a number of ferry routes you can choose for your holiday in Brittany. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. For example, if you want a low price then you may have to accept some inconvenience. The are also cheap flights to Brest and Dinard and car hire is available.

    Below we have assessed the pros and cons of the 4 most obvious ferry options to help you choose the best one to suit your needs:

Roscoff is less than 1.5 hours to the gite.

 

Ferries are  comfortable.

It is very expensive, especially in high season.

Condor Fast Ferry www.condorferries.co.uk Poole (or Weymouth)-St Malo

It's cheaper than BF.

 

It's fast.

It takes 3 hours to get from St Malo to the gite.

 

It's less comfortable than Brittany Ferries.

 

It only operates in the summer months.

LD Ferries www.ldline.co.uk Portsmouth - Le Havre It's cheaper than Brittany ferries.

Good roads from Le Havre.

It takes up to 4 hours.

There aren't  many overnight cabins

Transmarche Ferries www.transmancheferries.com Newhaven - Dieppe It's very cheap even in peak season

It's reasonably fast (4 hours crossing)

Good roads.

It's basic.

It's a long road trip, but closer than Boulogne.

Remember that some companies charge less for:

  • stays of less than 10 days or 5 days

  • weekday crossings

  • daytime crossings

  • crossings outside July and August

  • special offers
